5 hidden private terminals on the Mediterranean coast

July and August on the Côte d'Azur is the worst week of the year for private-aviation logistics. Nice slot windows tighten, Cannes-Mandelieu hits curfew, and FBO handling at both fields adds 60–90 minutes per leg. Most of our regulars haven't flown into either field since 2021.

Here are the five Mediterranean airports we route to instead — each within a 90-minute helicopter or car ride from somewhere you actually want to be.

1. Olbia (LIEO) — Costa Smeralda

If your destination is Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo or any of the Smeralda villas, fly to Olbia, not Cagliari. The GA terminal is its own building. Customs is two minutes; the car driver meets you on the apron. Local handler: Eccelsa.

2. Calvi (LFKC) — North-west Corsica

The most scenic approach in the Mediterranean — over the Cap Corse, descending past the citadel. Calvi has a 2,310 m runway, no curfew until 22:00, and the entire town fits inside a 5-minute drive. Use it for Saint-Florent, Île-Rousse and the Désert des Agriates villas.

3. Bastia (LFKB) — Eastern Corsica

Underrated alternative to Calvi when the western approach is closed by mistral. 2,510 m runway, 24/7 ops, fast handling. From Bastia you reach Saint-Florent in 35 minutes, Bonifacio in 2.5 hours.

4. Béziers (LFMU) — Western Languedoc

For Cap d'Agde, Sète, the Camargue and the southern Rhône wineries — Béziers is the closest GA field. Quiet, no slots required, a single FBO that knows everyone's name.

5. Lampedusa (LICD) — Italian-Tunisian gateway

Lampedusa is the southernmost European airport. Useful for combined missions into Tunisia or as a refuelling stop on the Sicily-to-North-Africa transit. 1,800 m runway, ILS, no curfew. Handling is basic but functional.

None of these airports require a slot in summer. None of them have queues. All five are 90 minutes or less from a destination clients actually wanted to reach.
